Scrum.org provides international training and assessment for Scrum practitioners. Until now there was no option for residents of Cambodia to access international scrum certification training courses within the Kingdom.

Jon Bowers, Sales and Marketing Manager of Web Essentials, explains why it is important to bring Scrum training to the country. “We wanted our employees to be certified to show an internationally recognized standard of excellence for our clients. We’ve had to send people to Kuala Lumpur and Singapore for training, so it was very expensive. We wanted to find a cost-effective way to train our staff, which also benefits other local companies.”

Web Essentials invited an official Scrum.org trainer to the TYPO3 conference to give a talk, and run a training course. Two other local companies who develop to international standards, Golden Gecko and Khalibre, joined the Web Essentials staff on the course.

They are also technology leaders in Cambodia who realize the importance of improving and demonstrating their in-house skills with an international certification.

18 people in total joined the two-day course, which was held at Development Innovations. It was very well received with a mix of Khmer and Westerners

There was a lot of knowledge gained from each other, as well as from the trainer. Our employees came back really fired up and ready to improve our processes and implementation of Scrum. The feedback was very positive from the participants and the trainer.

“We’ve been practicing Scrum for two years, so we have a pretty good grasp of it, but we are always improving,” Bowers continues.

If you missed out this time, never fear – Web Essentials is looking to do more agile training in Q1 2016.

In particular, we’re looking at Professional Scrum Developer and/or Professional Product Owner courses.
